‘There are no shortcuts in becoming a successful actor’


LAHORE: Legendary actor Qavi Khan said that there are no shortcuts in becoming a successful actor in TV and film industry and everybody should have to walk on the 'path of thorns'.

"If cultural foundations of our society are strong enough then we can create a society in, which art is a form of medium to entertain people and this should hence prevail," he said.

Khan said that he thanked formally the very stage on, which he was addressing top the audiences, that it helped him a lot to become a superstar in film industry. Legendry Qavi Khan said that due to extensive playing and acting in the then stage drama 'Aap Ki Tareef', when the first camp of TV was installed in the premises of the Alhamra Art Council , he was the first person to give audition for the PTV play and later become hero of the first play aired on PTV on November 28, 1964.

He announced on the occasion that he had been called by the president house and informed that soon president of Pakistan will hold meeting with the people striving for the 'Artist Welfare Fund' for artists and formally the fund will start helping the concerned artists. He said if the news materialized then it would be big achievement for the artists' fraternity. Living Legend Qavi Khan has been awarded with awards included Pride of Performance Award in 1980.

Yasmeen Tahir famous TV actor shared her memories stage drama in Pakistan in the early 60s before the advent of Television was the main attraction of people for entertainment. She said back in those times, directors like Naeem Tahir and Imtiaz Ali Taj made terrific drama and produced entertainment.

She said that stage dramas are also making in these days and due to the alternative forms of entertainment being present in the forms of Television, cinema , the audience are coming less to see the stage drama. Yasmeen stressed no doubt if young generation should take initiative in their hands then once again the stage dram would become popular.

While, Nayyar Ali Dada big name in the field of architecture said on the occasion that the stage drama of 1960s was spectacular especially the 'Aap Ki Tareef' with which many popular artists and cream of the film industry were associated with the stage drama.

"Emergence of creative art links directly to significance for the art culture prevailing in our society". Dada said.

He said the art culture in Pakistan halted due to colonial disruption and second time it disruptive in Zia-ul-Haq's era of its dictatorship rule. He said "The intellectual evolution links with the freedom given to the creative minds in order to bring change in society"

He said that during the cold war era someone asked from prime minster of Britain Margaret Thatcher that the then Soviet Union had given everything to their people then how become they would defeated?. Margaret Thatcher replied 'They are not giving freedom to their people and that's dangerous for any society'.

He said we should let our generation to give freedom in doing experiments in arts and let them hold the flagship along with uplifting our traditions.

Speakers expressed these views at a book launching ceremony of Aap Ki Tareef, published by Sang-e-Meel Publishers, which was held at Alhamra. The book is the adaptation of the 1960s famous and unbeatable comedy stage drama "Aap Ki Tareef" directed by Naeem Tahir. The ceremony was moderated by Ayesha Sana.
