Train derails in US state of Vermont, unknown number of injured: police
NEW YORK - A passenger train derailed on Monday in the US state of Vermont, injuring an undetermined number of people, state police told AFP.
“There was a train derailment at 10:30 am in Northfield. It was a passenger train,” a spokesman for the Vermont state police said, adding there were an unknown number of injuries. In a statement, train operator Amtrak said first responders were on the scene and that there are no immediate reports of any life-threatening injuries. It said the train - the Vermonter - was en route from Saint Albans in Vermont to the US capital Washington when it derailed after reportedly striking a rock slide on the tracks.
