Bjork streams third, final set of ‘Vulnicura’ remixes
Björk has shared the third and final installment of her Vulnicura remixes project, streaming the four-track set on Soundcloud ahead of a physical release on November 20th via One Little Indian. The set features reworkings of "Lion Song" by Juliana Huxtable, "Stonemilker" by Patten, and "Black Lake" and "Family" by Bloom. Each track will be released individually on single-sided, translucent 12-inch vinyl in die-cut sleeves. The tracks are available for pre-order now and come with an instant download of the remixes. Björk curated the third set of Vulnicura remixes with Robin Carolan of Tri Angle records (the previous two collections are also available to stream). In a statement, the Icelandic singer detailed the origin stories behind the new remixes. After mashing up a track by Bloom and Pakistani singer Abida Parveen, Björk reached out to the Belfast producer and asked him to rework "Black Lake" (he took on "Family" on his own accord). Björk lauded his production, writing, "I really adore his beats and I feel he's got a strong signature on his noises that are really his." As for Huxtable's remix of "Lion Song," Björk wrote that the rapper Le1f "texted me from a sweaty club a clip of Juliana doing a mix of 'Lion Song' so I contacted her and asked her to make it into a proper remix. It's her first remix and I think it's incredible!" With the release of the final Vulnicura remixes, Björk will be able to move on from her widely acclaimed, but emotionally taxing, 2015 LP, which she made in the aftermath of vocal surgery, a breakup with her longtime partner, her mother's heart attack and the death of studio collaborator Mark Bell. The singer was already starting to look ahead in August when she postponed and subsequently canceled a handful of European concerts, citing her eagerness to focus on new music. "Singing this album has been intense and the internal clock of it different to the other ones. It has sort of had to behave in its own little way," Björk wrote on Facebook. She added: "I have started writing new songs and feel the best most natural pathway to go is to let this beast flow its natural course and start anew."
